In this lesson, we’ll discuss the history of Aeolian mode, it’s significance, study the scale pattern most closely associated with Aeolian mode, as well as learn a cool Aeolian chord progression.

Knowing what key you are in has it’s advantages. If you play lead, you’ll be more aware of which scales you can use when improvising. And if you’re a songwriter, you’ll be better able to arrange and transpose a song to suit your needs. But knowing which key you’re in isn’t always an easy task…

The guitar has a four octave range, starting with Low E on the open sixth string and moving up through Middle E on the second fret of the fourth string, High E on the open first string, Upper E on the twelfth fret of the first string, and through the upper notes beyond the twelfth fret.
