This is sort of a left-field choice, but the one that comes to mind most quickly as my favorite solo is the one from “Now” by Days of the New, from their first CD.

  • http://www.stratoblogster.com Stratoblogster

Scott Henderson’s “Tore Down House” from album of the same name.

Neal Schon’s “I’m Down” solo from his 1980 collaboration with Jan Hammer “Untold Passion”. Long out of print. Here’s a Youtube link:

    SOLO STARTS AT 02:20

    Im gonna go with:

    Blackfoot – Highway song

    Lynyrd Skynyrd – Free Bird

The Outlaws – Green Grass and High Tides

Allman Bros – Whipping Post (Live off of the dreams box set)

    I like my southern shredders!!

  • Tonemaster

One of my favs is Mr. Scarey by Lynch

  • http://www.sharemyguitar.com Mickey Richardson

    Youtube here I come….thx man!

  • http://sharemyguitar.com Dan Coplan

‘Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2′ – David Gilmour. Done.

  • Kevin Stafford

“Turn Me On” by Accept is the first solo that comes to mind. Short and sweet and ends with dual leads. This solo gave me more trouble than any other I can think of.

  • http://sharemyguitar.com Marcus Cornell

Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden or Aesthetics Of Hate by Machine Head i really love those double lead solos kind of thing.

  • http://sharemyguitar.com Brian Broussard

Feeling That Way/Anytime That You Want Me… the live performance on YouTube is so perfect that it’s almost identical to the studio version but is just raw enough to capture that live quality… must see guitar work

  • http://guitarwiring.blogspot.com Jazzonman

Telegraph Road – Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits

  • http://sharemyguitar.com/blog/ Scotter

    Something. The Beatles.

Just a fantastic solo for me- in terms of feeling – that supports a fantastic song. No point having a ” F**K OFF ” solo right slap bang in the middle of a bucket of horse s**t.

  • http://sharemyguitar.com/community/profile/MikeDCSR Mike DeCesare

One of my all-time favorite solos is in “Now Your Ships Are Burned” by Yngwie Malmsteen. The insane speed & melodic flow of the solos throughout the song are incredible

  • http://sharemyguitar.com Kirill

    “Limelight” by Rush

  • http://www.sharemyguitar.com Mickey Richardson

    @Kirill – nice selection!

  • http://sharemyguitar.com Julian

John Echols solo in Your Mind And I Belong Together, by Love

  • http://sharemyguitar.com/community/profile/refutethelegion Connor

My favorite guitar solo is pretty out there, but I have to go with “Forsaken” by Dream Theater. If you haven’t heard the band/song, go check it out!

  • http://www.facebook.com/mikeduboseandthedissidents Mike Dubose

There are a couple of live renditions of Zeppelin’s “Since I’ve Been Loving You” that leave me near tears!

  • Brent DeJong

There are so many great guitar solos. My three favorites in this order are. Rejoice by Phil Keaggy off the How the west was one album. Sloe Gin By Joe Bonamassa and Lonely in the night By Eric Johnson off the Venus Isle album. But lets not Forget the Great Gary Moore on Still got the blues for you

  • Danny

I love the “Little Wing” inspired solo in Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam. Michael McCready is a genius.

  • Bob

What? Nobody screaming because you didn’t include Hotel California?

  • Braxton Salyer

Beyond The Hourglass by I Am Ghost

This is Home by I Am Ghost

I Won’t See You Tonight part one by Avenged Sevenfold

I Won’t See you Tonight was the first song I ever learned, and, in my opinion, is still their best one ever. Its solos aren’t very fast or anything, they are just so melodic and fit the song so well

The other two are by my favorite band. There’s no way I could possibly describe them adequately. You’ll just have to check them out to see.

  • GuitarKeaven

    Blue Oyster Cults: Buck’s Boogie

  • CrunchySteve

Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix. The whole song is one great big guitar feast.

  • Robb Hindle

Jimmy Page, Stairway from The Song Remains The Same. The most inspired piece of guitar playing I have ever heard (and seen).

  • KEVIN CHATFIELD

    hotel calfornia,eagles

  • Robert Muller

    Dechristianize – Vital Remains

    Homage For Satan – Deicide

  • jc_bluz

Bodhisatva: Denny Dias / Skunk Baxter (Steely Dan) “Rock” balls meets “Jazz” sensibilities at a breakneck tempo!

  • http://www.lukerativemusic.com Luke

    ‘Through Eyes of Glass’ Forbidden
off their first album ‘Forbidden Evil’

As a total Schenker nut, this was the first time I had heard/seen anyone do really fast sweep arpeggios, and it blew my mind. Glen Alvelais nails this solo.

  • Jason

‘Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers’ by Jeff Beck.
Beck was way before my time when he did this song, but when I was 17 I was in love with his playing. Jeff Beck takes the same boring minor pentatonic scales we all play to death, and creates a work of art, that breathes and moves you.

All the solos listed were good ones, but a little obvious at the same time. Comfortably Numb, awesome solo but David Gilmour even said Jeff Beck is better. Slash is one of my heroes, but he said Beck is his hero. Crazy Train and Eruption are iconic, love those, but seriously heard those about 9 billion times combined.

  • Don

If you haven’t checked it out ever or in a while – get the extended version of Chuck Mangione’s FEELS SO GOOD. Grant Geissman plays a solo like you’ve never heard. A DAY IN THE LIFE by Jeff Beck is awesome too.

  • http://www.groovehammer.ca Dave Brinton

A tie between the Eagles’ “Hotel California,” and Steely Dan’s “Reeling In The Years.”

  • Olivia Anne

George Harrison’s While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

  • uncle leo

FRANK ZAPPA “Fifty-fifty” from Overnight Sensation “Inca Roads” from One Size Fits All

  • Megadeth’s Tornado of Souls

    ^name
I can’t believe no one has already said this.

  • John Zimmerman

I have to say I just love “The End” from Abbey Road – the guitar swapping solos are just about the best guitar work I’ve ever heard when it comes to sheer difference of sound yet power building to the max!

  • ilMik

    Hotel California (Eagles)

  • Ozzyozz

Randy Rhoads’s children of the grave on tribute

  • http://www.edgeofparadiseband.com Dave

Bark at the moon, jake e. lee great solo. steve vai, many of them. but “Scarified” by racer x is one big solo and really fun to play! or there is Edge of Paradise’s “walk the line” that’ll sprain your pinky for sure!! :)

  • D. Banks

“Mr. Crowly”, Randy Rhoads with Ozzy. Technically challenging. He was just as spot on live as he was in the studio. What a shame he died so young. His classical playing is great as well.

  • http://www.facebook.com/RngMaster David Clair II

The guitar solo from “Round and Round” by Ratt has gotta be my favorite, done by Warren DeMartini and Robbin Crosby

  • Rene Wijgh

Intro to sweet Jane (Lou Reed) by Steve Hunter

  • Roscoe P

Brian May’s solo at the end of “Save Me” is Topping my list, there is an emotion about it that peaks and gives me chills.

  • Tom

Natural Science by Alex Lifeson from the RUSH album Permanent Waves. What a LAME list of choices you compiled here. Just about anything Lifeson has done DESTROYS everything on this list. “Sweet Child of Mine”?! Are you for real? WTF?! Obviously this list wasn’t put together by anyone that actually plays guitar.

  • http://www.sharemyguitar.com Mickey Richardson

Hi Tom, we appreciate your input but we disagree. Music is subjective. Though I am a HUGE Alex Lifeson fan myself, some people don’t like Rush and they still deserve the right to voice their opinion too without being insulted. The world is a big place and there is room for everyone and every taste brother.

  • Don

One of my favorite guitarists is Jack White – particularly Blue Veins with Raconteurs is very moving. He’s the kind of guitarist I’d want to be.

  • richard

Robert Fripp’s shredding on Eno’s “Baby’s on Fire” old but still good.

  • Esty

    Steve Clark Switch 625

  • guest

Larry Carlton on Steely Dan’s Kid Charlemagne.
